When I went vegetarian in 1994, it was because I saw all of those colorful brochure of bloody animals at factory farms that Peta gave to hardcore kids to pass out at shows. It was cool to be vegetarian, the majority of kids that went to shows were straight edge and vegetarian. I didn't enjoy drinking like all of the other kids in my school so I finally found a place to fit in, a place to feel safe. Needless to say I was young and ate iceberg lettuce salads and french fries, because I didn't care about being healthy, I cared about the animals, as long as I didn't eat them I was on the right track.... wrong. In 1996 I went to a restaurant where a friend worked, this friend Rodney was able to give us free dessert, so of course I had 6 ice cream sundaes that resulted in me staying in bed for 36 hours with extreme abdominal pain and bloating. After that I never again ate dairy, I was done, I always felt guilty eating it anyway so it felt like the right time to let it go. So i did....
Years later I became more interested in health and the environment so I turned around and started eating more consciously.
